A misguided UN war crimes ploy in Gaza
She is revealing a rare combination of ignorance and prejudice against the Israelis. Ant discussion of war crimes should be gin with those of Hamas in deliberately targeting noncombatants in Israel. Israel National News discusses the issue:The United Nations' most senior human rights official said last night that the Israeli military may have committed war crimes in Gaza. The warning came as Israeli troops pressed on with the deadly offensive in defiance of a UN security council resolution calling for a ceasefire.
Navi Pillay, the UN high commissioner for human rights, has called for "credible, independent and transparent" investigations into possible violations of humanitarian law, and singled out an incident this week in Zeitoun, south-east of Gaza City, where up to 30 Palestinians in one house were killed by Israeli shelling.
Pillay, a former international criminal court judge from South Africa, told the BBC the incident "appears to have all the elements of war crimes".

...I suspect that what the UN high commissioner for human rights is calling an Israeli war crime is in fact a Hamas war crime where the death cult showed a "callous disregard for the safety of Palestinian civilians living in the Gaza Strip: by launching attacks from within the confines of densely populated areas, by storing missiles and rocket launchers under mosques and homes...." That has been the nature of most of the civilian casualties that Hamas has been deliberately trying to use in its victim strategy and UN is acting as Hamas's useful idiot on the issue.Hamas Violates Rights of Jews and Arabs
The Israeli government has not officially responded to the filing. However, also on Wednesday, the IDF Military Advocate General's Office issued a release in which the army explicitly refers to the international crimes committed by the jihadist Hamas regime in Gaza."While Hamas and other terrorist groups continue to make efforts to carry out acts of terrorism within Israel by a variety of means, including suicide bombings," the IDF statement said, "in the last few years, Hamas' primary means of attacking Israel from the Gaza Strip has been characterized by the firing of rockets and mortars against neighboring Israeli population centers. Indeed, since Hamas assumed control of the Gaza Strip in mid-2007, there have been more than 5,000 rockets fired into Israel from within Gaza by Hamas and other terrorist organizations, placing a quarter of a million Israeli civilians under incessant terrorist attacks."
The "deliberate and systematic rocket attacks directed at civilians and civilian objects," the IDF Advocate General explained, constitute "violations of international law." Yet Hamas is also responsible for violations of "fundamental obligations under international law with respect to the protection of the civilian population under its control," the statement continued.
Hamas, the IDF Advocate General said, displays a "callous disregard for the safety of Palestinian civilians living in the Gaza Strip: by launching attacks from within the confines of densely populated areas, by storing missiles and rocket launchers under mosques and homes, by using university facilities and other protected places to develop weapons and explosives, Hamas systematically abuses the protections afforded to civilians and civilian objects under international law, while placing the safety and welfare of these civilians at great risk."

ReplyDeleteThe huge ammount of anti Israeli propaganda hitting the airwaves seems to be anti semitism rebranded.Hamas have said that they want to march on Rome, the rest of Europe, the USA and all points E and W of there.I feel that Israel is being forced to fight yet another war on behalf of democracy with anti semitic criticism as a chorus in the background.
Can someone tell me this? Maybe I'm just an ignorant observer? Let's take a hypothetical case:
ReplyDeleteSupposing the Saudis start firing missiles indiscriminately from sites in central Dubai's heavily-populated civilian, urban areas into Damascus because they regard Syrians as the "enemy" and hate them. The Syrians retaliate with strikes on the Dubai missile sites, located in urban areas, resulting in collateral damage. Who is guilty of a crime?
In my view, and I'm an impartial onlooker, it would appear that Hamas have clearly provoked Israel, knowing full well that their actions would eventually evoke a "tit-for-tat" response. It seems a terribly cowardly, egoistic and murderous strategy to attack your so-called enemy from within a heavily poulated innocent civilian confine. They did so, knowing full well the risks to the innocent Gaza civilian population and, in my opinion by doing so they have earned themselves recognition as terrorists of the worse kind.
