Dividing Gaza to defeat Hamas
Israeli troops fought heavy battles with Hamas fighters in two densely populated Gaza towns today as the Army sought to split the strip into three sections to cut off the Islamist group’s supply lines. While they have been actively murdering and maiming Fatah members, their paranoia has them striking out any anyone who has not joined their death cult. The story also covers some of the casualties resulting from the incursion which do not appear to be significant at this point although there have been a few deaths and injuries.
...The Israeli strategy of splitting Gaza into north, central and southern sections mirrors a similar tactic employed when settlers used to come under attack in the strip.
It enables the military to stop Gaza City being supplied from the south, stops Hamas movements and gives troops distinct areas to clear.
Israeli troops also took up positions in the old Jewish settlement of Netzarim which controls the main north-south road.
Tanks supported by helicopter gunships battled around Gaza City and in the northern towns of Beit Lahiyah and Beit Hanoun as well as Jabaliya, a Hamas stronghold.
Flames shot high into the sky after the Israeli air force bombed a gas depot near Beit Lahiyah, causing a deafening explosion. A huge fire raged at the depot, on a main road through Gaza, following the strike on the private business which supplies cooking gas to the local population.

Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, are estimated to number about 15,000 fighters. They are divided into small units of half a dozen men, each with a specific task or weapon – sniper, antitank rocket launcher, explosives expert, medic and commander. They operate through tunnels and wadis, or river beds, that crisscross the undulating farmlands of the eastern strip, where many fields were on fire from artillery barrages.
Hamas is also wary of internal enemies....

What I found interesting about the article is what it revealed about the Israelis plans for dealing with Hamas and its logistic network in Gaza. For example the cooking gas location could be used for building IEDs similar to ones the terrorist in the UK attempted to use recently which were copied from a model used by some of the al Qaeda operatives in Iraq.
By cutting the area into three components the army will be able to restrict Hamas movement to contact and also be able to intercept enemy communications.
This is sound strategy, IMO, to defeat them finally and get it over with. In the end, I think Israel had to invade, just to turn the media from talking all about how Hamas was doing. Now we're about to find out that they can't really fight a real war.
ReplyDeleteI wish this strategy could work in Afghanistan and Iraq too, but those countries are just too big to seal off the various factions.
do all you can to divide and rule as the Muslim countries are too many. Today they are all divided and someday they will unite. Then what?
ReplyDeleteThey will do all they can, but one day they will be tired of dividing people. They are simply too many. Today the Muslims are divided but there will come a time when strategies wont work.
