Rev. Wright in context
Ed Morrissey takes the time to flesh out Wright's "snippets" and he actually looks worse. He took all sorts of events where the US took action against an enemy who attacked us and omits the provocation in his list of "horrors" by the US.
One of the groups he accuses the US of taking the country from by terror was the Arawak Indians. This is amusing, since there is no record the Arawak were ever on the North American continent. They had originally occupied much of the Caribbean until they were conquered by the Carib Indians who practiced cannibalism on their defeated foes. Some of the remnants of the Arawak introduced Columbus's crew to venereal diseases like syphilis which had never existed in Europe before his voyages. Many of the ones who were not wiped out by the Carib later died from small pox in the disease exchange with the Europeans.
The bottom line is that context does not help Wright's case. In facts it shows his out of context view of snippets of history.
Wright also contradicts Obama's claim that he regrets his outlandish statements. In fact he embraces them all. I think Obama just made up the statement of regret. Certainly the members of his congregation still stand by the nuttiness.
