Chavez cutting own food supply from Colombia?

Buried in the Guardian story is this:

...

Despite the martial rhetoric, the likelihood of war is greatly reduced by the three countries' heavy dependence on mutual trade, especially the transit of food into Venezuela through Colombia. Additionally, Venezuela's armed forces are widely considered no match for the US-equipped Colombian military.

...
Since Venezuela is already suffering food shortages because of Chavez's attempt to repeal the law of supply and demand, he may be hurting Venezuela by shutting off commercial traffic into his country. BTW, more important than the US equipment is the US training that the Colombian army has received. If Chavez is an example of Venezuelan army leadership, that country is in serious trouble.
