The value of the terps

The Belmont Club discusses the recent concern in the UK for interpretors who will be left behind to fend for themselves when the British troops pull out. There are about 90. There has been a lot of discussion in the UK press about the morality of leaving them behind which tells you something about the condition of the area they are abandoning.

I think the concern is over blown for a very different reason. The US is already talking about surging forces into the area when the British bug out and there has always been a shortage of terps for US forces not to mention the shortage in the CIA and FBI. It is hard to imagine they would overlook such an obvious resource.
