Most migrants at Mexican border were never eligible for asylum before Trump's new rule

NY Times:

Most Migrants at Border With Mexico Would Be Denied Asylum Protections Under New Trump Rule

The rule, which goes into effect Tuesday, denies protections to migrants who failed to apply for asylum in the first country they passed through on their way to the United States’ southwestern border.
What the rule does is stop the ineligible asylum seekers from exploiting the US system by getting into the country and merging with the population.   Over 90 percent of those applying for asylum never met the requirements for asylum.  Democrat politicians wanted them to get in anyway and that is why they oppose the new rule.  Those trying to destroy the immigration system have been pushing the asylum scam in recent years.
