A backlash against a backlash?

I think the vote against the minarets was more than a rejection of architectural elements surrounding mosques. It was really a backlash against aggressive Islam which prohibits Christian churches in places like Saudi Arabia. Perhaps it is a backlash against Muslim prohibitions of Christian symbols.
