Immigration 'change'
A day after President Obama announced that legislation to overhaul immigration laws would have to wait until next year, the secretary of homeland security played down the need for change in a speech here and took a tough stance on enforcing current immigration laws. The advocates for overhauling immigration law have never been able to persuasively explain how their changes would increase security. The changes they advocate would in large part take away any consequences for coming here illegally thus acting as an incentive for more immigration outside the the law. In other words what they want will only make the security situation worse while rewarding those who came here illegally. By turning illegals into voters they only exacerbate the problem. The only reason I cans see why anyone would support such a program is to create more voters for Democrats who will promise more benefits at the expense of everyone else. The secretary, Janet Napolitano, defended the administration’s assertive strategy against illegal immigrants and companies that employ them, relying largely on programs started under President George W. Bush.
That strategy has drawn fire from immigrant groups and many of Mr. Obama’s Hispanic supporters, who say the president has not lived up to campaign promises to ease the pressure on illegal workers and to seek changes in immigration laws that would give more workers visas.
But Ms. Napolitano argued that the Obama administration had changed Mr. Bush’s programs in critical ways, such as putting an emphasis on deporting criminals and holding more employers responsible for hiring illegal workers.
“Make no mistake, our overall approach is very, very different,” she said Tuesday at a conference on border security at the University of Texas, El Paso. “It is more strategic, more cooperative, more multilateral and, in the long run, more effective.”
Ms. Napolitano said security problems on the border were inextricably linked not only to the drug trade, but also to the problem of illegal workers in far-flung cities across the country. The government needs to address illegal immigration at the same time it attacks the Mexican mafias, she said.
Her remarks disappointed advocates for immigrants, who questioned whether increasing enforcement would improve security as much as overhauling immigration laws would.

To really get control of the immigration situation we need to enforce the laws and only reward citizenship on those who come here legally and obey the law. What is wrong with that?
Update: Thousands of people are able to legally immigrate into this country every year. Perhaps that system can be improved, but it is no excuse for coming here illegally.

ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with that. It is the way it SHOULD be. Unfortunately, by the President's own admission immigration laws are "broken" and therefore it is virtually impossible for people to be rewarded for playing by the rules because you can't win if the rules don't permit it.
What is more frustrating is that Obama's enforcement first immigration agenda requires him to enforce BROKEN laws.
That is simply not change that I can believe in.
The American people are at the end of their fuses, because for decades they have been supporting hundreds of thousands of businesses who hire illegal immigrants? Hundreds of billions of dollars are going into the pockets of corporate executives, because they pay--nothing--other than minimum wages to foreign nationals. Businesses are very well aware that taxpayers will keep supporting the 20 million plus already here, because a government mandated laws says its demanded of us? European Industrialized nations are also in the same place, having to deal with a EU parliament who are also forcing the same mandatory laws. In America there is a safety net for people who have lost their jobs and forced into the breadline?
ReplyDeleteBut illegal alien families who broke our sovereignty laws, have intentionally taken advantage of public welfare and federal legislation that gives them a right to our schools, health care and a whole barrel of benefits instead of US residents. Now President Obama wants to give AMNESTY, rewarding these people for crossing our almost defenseless border. This must not happen to the American workers and the rest of our population, because the Heritage Foundation has stated that just in retirement and pensions it exceeds $2 Trillion dollars. Even legal immigrants numbers have accelerated to 1. 5 million annually. We need no more poor, uneducated to sustain in America. We must cut down quotas to only the skilled contributors, who will not become a public charges. Then does anybody have an answer for those who will come after this AMNESTY? Eventually the millions who will come here, will lead to irreversible OVERPOPULATION.
WE ALREADY HAVE IMMIGRATION LAWS, BUT HAVE SADLY BEEN UNENFORCED AND ARE NOT BROKEN? THE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS, WANT ABSOLUTELY--NO RESTRICTIONS-- ON HOW MANY FOREIGN CHEAP LABOR CAN BE ALLOWED INTO THE US? OBSERVERS HAVE SEEN THE FINANCIAL IMPACT OF MASS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION INTO THE SANCTUARY STATE OF CALIFORNIA?
Get involved with the power of E-Verify, a composite of the SAVE ACT, to remove illegal immigrants from businesses.
