Obama's first screw up--suspending trials at Gitmo

CNN:

In one of his first acts in office President Obama has ordered the U.S. government to suspend prosecutions of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay for 120 days, military officials said Tuesday.

Papers filed at the U.S. prison camp said the request is made "in the interest of justice and at the direction of the president of the United States." It seeks a delay in proceedings until May 20.

"The judges will receive the requests and review them, and we anticipate a ruling soon," said Cmdr. Jeffrey Gordon, a Defense Department spokesman.

Tuesday's directive was issued verbally through Defense Secretary Bob Gates, according to a military official.

Obama had vowed to close the naval prison at the U.S. base. While Obama's order does not go that far, it will stop the prosecutions of 21 detainees currently facing war crimes charges.

This is a double dog dumb move. He might as well release all the detainees and let them get back to the serious work of mass murder of Americans. If he thinks he can prosecute these guys in regular courts he did not learn much about the law at Harvard.

I will guarantee you that not one of these detainees was given a Miranda warning. That would mean that nothing they said could be used against them. Nor was their a CSI investigation of their crimes. It appears the liberals are ready to loose the enemy's dogs of war.

Fox News reports that the families of the 9-11 victims are not pleased by Obama's terrorist rights agenda.

  2. The outcome is already known. given the percentage of the ones who had already been released, and returned to battle, he is going to basically be the guy who pardoned ten people who ended up going out and murdering again. until it ahppens, they will nto believe and will pretend that they cant know till they try...

just imagine... they let them go... give them asylum... and one of them actually blows up something or does somethign.

it would be the end of the democrats, except that the republicans are on the same side and will cover for them rather than control both ends of the situation..

  3. I can promise you this...
History will show that unconventional methods of interrogation is the only way to deal with our enemies. Most of our enemies will not think twice about such practices. Sure, its easy to say that this is America and we are above this kind of thing and that everyone is entitled to due process. But ask yourself this..."If hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of Americans are dying at the hands of terrorist at some point in our Country's future - will you still believe that enemy combatants are entitled to due process?" If you are honest with yourself, you wont believe that to be the case. So why not be proactive about it before another 911 type event occurs.

  4. Considering Obama graduated with honors from the top Law school in the world. I'm going to go ahead and take his logic over yours. Common sense tells me to.

  5. I come from Poland, the country which was steamrolled twice in WWII - first by German Nazis, then by Russian Stalinists, the place where Germans placed most of their's concentration camps, and I can say that doing the same as your opponent lower you to his level. If we'd make our own camps of death, killed all Germans "because some of them are murderers" we'd be no better than Nazi.

Let all those who really want to be just like a terrorists rise their hands.

    Howgh
