Israel positions forces for move on southern Lebanon

Last night transporters were seen carrying Israeli tanks to the northern border as 6,000 reservists were called up for emergency service.

Israel's aim will be to dismantle the extensive network of military bases and facilities used by the Shia militants and to persuade the government of Lebanon to meet international calls to disarm the group once and for all.

But any attack will raise fears of Israel repeating the mistakes it made during its 22-year-occupation of southern Lebanon, which ended six years ago after more than 1,000 Israeli military deaths.

With America accusing Iran and Syria of responsibility for yesterday's Hizbollah raid, there were fears any conflict could spread across the region.

Why would the US statement of the obvious cause fears whereas the hostile acts of Iran's and Syria's proxy does not cause fears? Perhaps some are fearful that the ruse is not going to work and they will be confronted about their treachery.
