Belarus commander says his troops have no interest in helping Putin's war in Ukraine

 Washington Examiner:

A top Belarusian military leader has quit over Russia's invasion of Ukraine, according to a Ukrainian official who posted the decorated general's purported resignation letter online.

Maj. Gen. Viktor Gulevic, the deputy defense minister for the Moscow-aligned nation on Ukraine's northern border, said his soldiers want no part of Russian President Vladimir Putin's war and he is unable to mobilize them for the effort. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is close with Putin, but his country has hosted peace talks which so far have proven fruitless. Ukraine claimed last week that Belarusian forces have crossed its borders to support Russia, but Belarus denied it.

"Conducting explanatory work with the commanders of military units did not yield results," Gulevic allegedly wrote in a letter posted online by former Ukrainin Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Alexander Nosov. "I have the courage to assume that the replacement of the commanders of these military units, who could not organize the formation of groups on the ground, will not give us the result we need.

...

Putin's war is not popular with his own troops and it looks like the troops in Belarus are reluctant to join the operation despite the wishes of the leader of that country.
