GOP establishment hopes to play a long game in this year's race

Dan Balz:
GOP establishment still hopeful it can stop Trump and Cruz

There is a consensus that it won't happen quickly — it will require the capacity to absorb a series of losses before the dynamic shifts.
It is understandable why they hope to stop Trump since he is so inconsistent on the issues and is too much a wildcard.  Cruz, on the other hand, supports almost everything they say they are for, so it looks like they would rather put their personal pique above what they say they want in the way of policy.   So do they want to repeal Obamacare, stop amnesty, reduce spending, strengthen the military or not?
