Iraq's Missle Destruction Ploy
Euro wimps are swooning over Iraq's agreement in principal to destroy some missles. This from a government that has no principals other than deceit, deception and destruction of any opposition. Rather than being proof of Iraqi complaiance or that the inspections are working, it is really proof that Iraq continues to game the process. If they were serious about disarming that would have disclosed the missles last year and immediatly started destroying them. They did not because they have no intenetion of voluntarily disarming. With respect to their request for suggestions on how to destroy the missles, what they need to do now is disclose the exact coordinates of the missles and US can take care of them on the opening day of the war.
Critic of Frank's Battle Plans
Buster Glossam who participated in the planning of the bombing campaign during the 1991 Gulf War has suggested that Frank's plan as leaked to the media (hopefully no one outside the military chain of command knows the real plan) does not do enough to prepare the battlefield for the ground forces who would attack early on in the proposed plan. There are several reasons why it will take less time to prepare the battlefield this time. The enforcement of the no fly zone has given US forces the opportunity to attack anti aircraft sites as well as other missles sites. In addition with a significant increase in precision bombs, it will not only take fewer bombs, it wll take less time to destroy the Iraqi targets. Another reason it will take less time is Iraq is significantly weaker now so there are fewer targets to strike. In the Afghan campaign a lot of time and bombs were wasted hitting empty Taliban facilities before hitting Taliban troops. Stratgic bombing experts for some reason do not believe striking troop concentrations can also be strategic. If the troops are going to be sent in early, the Iraqi troops should be early targets. If they want to surrender, they will be even more motivated if they survive the bombing.
Precision bombing should also make it harder to put military hardware next to mosques and civilian facilities. If the target is significant, it can be hit with little damage to adjacent buildings. In the '91 war Saddam parked planes next to historic sites. This is an example of a target that would not survive this time.
Estrada
Senate Republicans are over strategizing how to deal with the Democrats egregious opposition to the Estrada nomination. If they are afraid to call for a closure vote because it will set some precedent, they are letting the Dems win without requiring them to pay the price for this bad conduct. Make these people stay up all night without going to the rest room until they give this man a vote.
