Republicans' likely to gain in governor races
Red States:
Cook Political Report Has More Good News for Republicans, Bad for Dems
...
According to Cook Political Report, eight important gubernatorial races just shifted in the direction of the Republicans. Among the states with a shift in the Republican direction? Michigan, with the execrable Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer, queen of the pandemic restriction.
Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada, Maine, New Mexico, South Carolina, Oregon, and Iowa all moved to the right. Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada, three pivotal battleground states, shifted from “Lean Democratic” to “Toss Up.” Each of those states has first-term Democratic incumbents — Govs. Gretchen Whitmer, Tony Evers, and Steve Sisolak, respectively. Whitmer and Evers incurred a lot of ire over their Wuhan coronavirus moves and that may work against them, come the election.
The other states that moved more in the Republican direction were Maine, New Mexico, Oregon, Iowa, and South Carolina. While the first three are still favoring the Democrats, they made positive moves to the right to “likely Democrat” from “solid Democrat” or from “likely Democrat” to “lean Democrat.” Meanwhile, Iowa and South Carolina have gone from likely Republican to solid Republican.

The polling also indicates gains for Republicans in Congressional races. Democrats not seeking reelection is another tell.
