Antifa charged in San Diego riot

 Red States:

...

First, District Attorney Summer Stephan’s office made it clear that they weren’t falling for the typical Antifa malarkey that they were just innocent protesters that were antagonized into attacking people.

“Video evidence analysis shows that overwhelmingly the violence in this incident was perpetrated by the Antifa affiliates and was not a mutual fray with both sides crossing out of lawful First Amendment expression into riot and violence,” District Attorney Summer Stephan’s office said in a news release, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The defendants “are self-identified to be affiliated with Anti-fascists or Antifa” and gathered on Jan. 9 in San Diego to take “direct action” against a pro-Trump “Patriot March,” according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. “Direct action” is defined as “acts of violence such as assault, battery, assault with deadly weapons, arson, and vandalism,” according to the DA’s office. Police declared an unlawful assembly the day of the clashes.

Now, that’s remarkable for a California DA because they’re being honest about what this situation was – Antifa coming to attack people. They’re also using and defining the leftist term of “direct action,” indicating they understand what was going on. But even beyond that, what makes this case different is that there was a conspiracy to commit riot charge levied, the first time that kind of a charge has been used, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. That’s alleging this wasn’t just some random folks getting out of hand but people organized with a purpose of direct action against the Trump supporters.

One group of the anti-fascists originated in San Diego, while another group formed in Los Angeles a week before the pro-Trump rally, according to the criminal complaint. They’re accused of circulating a Jan. 2 social media post calling for a counterprotest to the pro-Trump rally, “in essence agreeing to take part in the ‘direct action.’ Others agreed by showing up in Pacific Beach on January 9th, 2021 and participating in the violence,” prosecutors allege, according to the criminal complaint.

In addition to that, the description from the San Diego Union-Tribune included something that I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a mainstream description of Antifa, something that is infuriatingly never mentioned by the MSM.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies describes “Antifa” as a “decentralized network of far-left militants who oppose what they believe are fascist, racist, or otherwise right-wing extremists” and whose adherents “frequently blend anarchist and communist views.” Anti-fascists typically don’t shy away from clashes, instead using what they call “direct action” to confront the systems, groups and individuals they view as their political enemies.

...

For too long Antifa has been getting away with its violent attacks and not being prosecuted.  They tend to falsely accuse their political opponents of being fascist or racist, and they rarely called on these bogus allegations.  Other prosecutors need to prosecute criminal activities of this group.
