Misplaced optimism

Raid touted as another example of hallmark of future U.S. missions

Raids are transitory operations that cannot hope to replace persistence operations.  Some conflicts require taking and holding real estate to deny it to an enemy and to keep an enemy from using that real estate to launch attacks of his own.

While we are obviously getting better with our raids they have limited applications and by themselves would make wars longer and more bloody.
