Ultimate evidence of success in Iraq at cemetary

McClatchy Newspapers:

At what's believed to be the world's largest cemetery, where Shiite Muslims aspire to be buried and millions already have been, business isn't good.

A drop in violence around Iraq has cut burials in the huge Wadi al Salam cemetery here by at least one-third in the past six months, and that's cut the pay of thousands of workers who make their living digging graves, washing corpses or selling burial shrouds.

Few people have a better sense of the death rate in Iraq .

...

The burial business is not what it used to be in Iraq and that is a good thing, especially for those who don't need to be buried. This is bad news for al Qaeda and for Democrats who insist that surge in Iraq is not working. That latter group apparently includes some former generals and captains, who seem to be out of touch with what is happening on the ground in Iraq. They can join the grave diggers in being disappointed in the drop in business.
