Principles and pragmatism
Tony Blankley:
Quoted material removed. You may read the original at the link above.Usually it is emotional issues that drive people away from pragmatism. Certainly abortion is an emotional issue for many on both sides. Perhaps that is why I have never liked the issue, because I disliked the arguments of both sides. Because the arguments are framed as the emotional choice between hating women or killing babies, it is hard for either side to be pragmatic. That is too bad, because the election will have only a marginal effect on either choice. At its core the choice is really about the judicial selections of the winner and even though Giuliani will not embrace the baby killer argument, he has conceded that he would give the people with that argument the judges they want, but apparently that is not enough to give the emotions of that side of the argument a happy feeling. So they would opt instead for someone who will rule against the women haters. Go figure. What is clear is that emotional thinking is not necessarily rationale thinking.
