I also challenge the allegation that Trump fired the guy "under cover of darkness." The President was pretty straightforward about his reasons for firing the guy when asked about it at the press briefing. I thought he was spot on.
I think the guy should have been fired. He changed the rule to allow a political opponent of the President to use hearsay to file a bogus "whistleblower" report. The transcript of the call shows a rather routine phone call with a request for help on a corruption investigation. There was nothing wrong with that. What happened after that was an attempt by Democrats to cover up what looks like a corrupt bargain between Joe Biden and former officials in Ukraine.
