Actually it was the cars fault

NY Times:

A Police Tesla Nearly Ran Out of Power During a Chase. It Wasn’t the Car’s Fault.

Gas or electric, all cars need to be refueled in some way, the Fremont Police Department said.

The problem for electric cars is that they cannot be recharged in five minutes like a gas vehicle can be refueled.  That means they are less likely to take a quick break to be refueled or recharged because the officer does not want to be out of service for several hours.  It takes much longer to top them off.  Until electric vehicles can be recharged in a short amount of time they are going to be inferior to gas engined vehicles.
