Why did hiring really slow?

As long as there are more available jobs than there are people looking for work, it seems grossly misleading to blame the slow down on trade issues, which have actually led to more job creation in certain industries.

It is not from a lack of jobs. In fact, for the last several months there have been more job openings than there are people looking for work. That was the case in the last month as well. Add the serious storms and flooding in the Midwest and you have weather-related reasons that would distract the hiring process.
