China's rare earth elements are not that rare

Washington Post:
China has hinted it may starve the U.S. of key materials for tech products. That could backfire.

The threat overlooks the rise of alternative sources of rare-earth elements used to produce high-tech goods, such as smartphones and fighter jets.
The elements are available in the US where mining had been previously halted because of environmentalists.
