White supremacists get little support in poll

Huffington Post:
A new poll in the wake of the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, finds that while Americans widely say they oppose racism and white nationalism, many still appear to hold far-right, white supremacist views.

The Ipsos poll, for Thomson Reuters and the University of Virginia Center for Politics, was conducted online from Aug. 21 to Sept. 5 ― in the weeks following the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville. It sampled around 5,360 American adults, asking questions about race that respondents could agree or disagree with to varying degrees.

“While there is relatively little national endorsement of neo-Nazis and white supremacists,” according to the release describing the poll’s findings, “there are troubling levels of support for certain racially-charged ideas and attitudes frequently expressed by extremist groups.”

While the vast majority of Americans polled expressed support for racial equality when asked in so many words ― 70 percent strongly agreed that “all races are equal,” and 89 percent agreed that all races should be treated equally ― people’s responses got murkier when it came to expressing their viewpoints on particular issues related to race and extremism.

The Huffpo is a left-wing media outlet and it struggled mightily to find the racism that the media, in general, has been trying to find ever since Trump was elected.  Thus support for the dominant European culture in the US was described as backing for "white European heritage."  I see this as a backing for Western culture which has led to most of the progress in the world in the last 200 years.

After all how many universities were in North America before the Europeans came.  You could ask the same question for Africa.  It is this culture and the benefits of it that have brought immigrants from all over the world to want to live here and enjoy it.

Buried in the story is a finding that of those surveyed only 8 percent said they supported white nationalism.  I suspect that number is higher than reality.  I personally do not know anyone who has expressed those views and to my knowledge have never met anyone who does.  Since I began this blog I have attended several gatherings of conservatives and have never heard anyone at those gatherings express such views.

I think what the left is trying to do is discredit the Trump administration and those that support by tagging them as racists when they are not.  In the last 10 years, I have seen more anti-white racism in the media than racism against other groups.  It has become a mantra of the Democrats and groups like Black Lives Matter.
