Trump upfront about the search for illegal leaking of classified material

NY Times:

Trump Directs Justice Department to Investigate ‘Criminal Leaks’

It is unusual for a president to direct the Justice Department to open a criminal investigation into his opponents, or to talk publicly about doing so.
The Times seems to have a short term memory problem.   Its own reporters were caught up in the Obama administration's prosecution of leak cases and what were described as an unprecedented level.  The main difference was that Trump is more transparent about going ofter the leakers.  He has good reason to do so because these leakers are trying to sabotage his presidency.  These leaks are political hit jobs and they are clearly illegal and the material may have been compiled illegally, to begin with.
