Illegal immigrants flock to sanctuary cities

Washington Examiner:
Some 61 percent of the nation's estimated 11 million illegal immigrants live in just 20 major metro areas, virtually all of which are so-called "sanctuary cities" that block federal authorities from deporting those charged or convicted of other crimes.

A Pew Research Center report said that 6.8 million live in the 20 cities, including Los Angeles, Washington, San Francisco, Dallas and New York, all sanctuary cities. Of the 20, Phoenix, Houston and Orlando don't qualify as sanctuary cities, according to the Center for Immigration Studies, which has the most authoritative list.
...
Dallas will be under enormous pressure to come off of this list as the Texas legislature considers a bill proposed by Gov. Abbott to cut all state funding to sanctuary cities.  Austin, which is number 20 on the list is also being threatened with a loss of state funding and the state of Texas may go further and allow the removal of officials who refuse to cooperate with ICE.

I know the rationale for these policies is to allow illegals to report crimes against them, but the downside it that they invite more criminals into the cities such as the guy who murdered Kate Steinle in San Francisco.

Ultimately they are counterproductive from a crime standpoint and they are also likely to be losing federal funds too.  They are also facing challenges from the families of victims of crime committed by illegal aliens.
