The most counterproductive thing you could do right now would be to double down on the sort of stuff that made audiences seek out non-mainstream sources of news information in the first place — like twisting peoples' words out of context and publishing sensational and misleading headlines.

The example he gives is how the media distorted a quote from Paul Ryan about a kid who wanted to bring a brown bag lunch to school like other kids rather than get the government provided meal.  The media reported that story as Ryan wanting poor kids to go hungry.  That is what liberals in the media do too often.
