Chip failure turns older Teslas into a brick

Daily Mail:

The issue stems from a worn-out flash memory chip (arrow) embedded in the Multi-Media Controller board that activates the control screen and executes most functions

Older Tesla models are bricking as a result of a worn-out flash memory chip and it could cost more than $1,800 to fix the issue. The problem is plaguing vehicles about four years old.
They are wearing out after only four years in some cases.  The screens on the vehicles go dark when the chips fail.  It is happening because the vehicles are constantly writing log files.  I am surprised the chips cost that much.
