Mexico agreed to deal with migrants to avoid tariffs

Washington Post:
Mexico talked Trump out of tariffs with extensive migrant crackdown

Mexican negotiators agreed to an unprecedented immigration pact and preemptively accepted broader measures in Mexico if initial efforts don’t deliver quick results, according to officials and related documents.

Sometimes the alternative to a negotiated agreement can persuade a party to do a deal.  The reality is that the deal can be a good one for Mexico too because it will defend in part the cartels who have been shaking down the migrants.  The real loser in this deal is the Democrats who opposed it and who wanted the uncontrolled migration to continue.
