In the opening argument, the Manafort defense made clear that they were going after Gates for his failure to follow the law in his work for Manafort. Later the prosecution indicated they might not call him. It looks like they now think they need his testimony to make a case.
This trial is not looking like the slam dunk the left thought it would be.
