The media's delusional reaction to Trump's criticism of Europe's failure to live up to NATO obligations

NY Times:

Just by Meeting With Trump, Putin Comes
Out Ahead

  • By attacking Europe and starting a trade war with America’s closest allies, President Trump has already advanced the agenda of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, analysts say.
  • All he really needs to make his meeting on Monday with Mr. Trump a success is for it to take place without any major friction.
This may be one of the more absurd analysis I have seen on the front page of a major newspaper.

How in the name of common sense can Putin be happy to have NATO allies spend more on defense?  How can he think it is a win to have his deal with Germany on energy criticized?  Trump was right on both points and it would seem to be in Russia interests to have neither criticized.

The same media that winked at Obama's assurance of greater "flexibility" to disarm America makes the irrational suggestion that a stronger NATO less dependent on Russian energy is a win for Russia.  That this is the lead article in the NY Times is just ludicrous.

As for the alleged trade war, it is clear that the end goal of Trump is to have trade restrictions removed.  This should benefit not only the US but its trading partners.  Their bitter clinging to protectionism needs to end.

The only win Putin is getting out of this meeting is the irrational response of some in the media.
