The left becomes ever more shrill with its cries of wolf in response to Trump's court nominations

Peter Heck:
The chickens have come home to roost.

As soon as word leaked out that D.C. Circuit Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh was getting in a black sedan and heading from his office to the White House last Monday night, liberal politicians and interest groups began their cascade of cacophony, screeching about the end of Western Civilization if this mild-mannered dude was confirmed to the Supreme Court. No, seriously:

“The nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh will threaten the lives of millions of Americans for decades to come and will morph our Supreme Court into a political arm of the right-wing Republican Party.” – Terry McAuliffe

“[Trump] is using this nomination as a destructive tool on a generation of progress for workers, women, LGBTQ people, communities of color & families, & to radically reverse the course of American justice & democracy.” – Nancy Pelosi

“Civil rights, women’s rights, LGBT rights, health care are all under attack. We’ve seen Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s record and we demand no new SCOTUS justice until after a new Senate is seated in 2019.” – NAACP

“Forget abortion or same-sex marriage – contraception could be banned under Justice Kavanaugh.” – Daily Beast Editor Justin Miller

“Even considering this nomination will cement the first American dictatorship” – Actor Joss Whedon

This type of over-the-top rhetoric makes a dent in the political landscape by firing up those who don’t need to be fired up anyway, and by making the opposition screech with indignant defense. But those are the entrenched camps that wouldn’t budge from their opposition or support for the nominee regardless.
...
He gives other examples where Democrats have used similar rhetoric in the past to describe mild mannered Republicans.  This is the kind of rhetoric designed to shut off debate on the real qualifications of a person for office.  It makes you wonder whether many in the Democrat base would be able to comprehend an honest debate on the issues.
