China has most to lose in trade war

NY Times:

China Strikes Back at Tariffs, but Its Shoppers Worry

While many maintain a defiant tone, Chinese shoppers could get hit as the trade war hurts exports and makes even basic types of food more expensive.
Since they have such a huge trade surplus with the US they have more to lose in a trade war.  They would be better served to treat American goods more fairly in order to get access to US markets.  While some US companies outsource production of products to China, there are alternative sources for many of these products such as Taiwan.  That country produces a lot of woodworking tools that are sold in the US.  Some American consumers were already wary of buying high ticket items made in China.  I suspect that the big box stores will be looking for alternative suppliers.
