Democrats reject Ted Cruz's bill to solve the border issue of child separation

By now, you are all well aware of the families being separated at the border. You have seen the spectacle of crying children. You have heard the takes on all sides. Whether you are pro-law enforcement at all costs or pro-immigration at all costs, it does not change the fact that the separation of families is a heartbreaking situation, and that the emotional response is completely understandable.

As it turns out, Ted Cruz, Republican Senator from Texas, agrees that it is heartbreaking. On Monday, he introduced an "emergency bill" to keep families from being separated while in detention. The key provisions were to double the number of immigration judges to meet the overflow of immigrants, authorize the creation of additional shelters meant to keep the parents and children together, with the mandate that they must remain together except in cases of the children being at risk, and to expedite the process for those seeking asylum.

You would think this would receive bi-partisan support. It sounds like the type of legislation that nobody would reject. After all, it is all about the families and their children, is it not?

Of course, the left cannot help themselves. Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer of New York, refuses to show support. Schumer explains his non-commitment by saying, "Let's hope we never get to that. Let's hope the president does the right thing and solves the problem, which he can do . . . That's the simple, easiest and most likely way this will happen."

I agree that the President should to do the right thing, but does that mean the Senate Democrats should not do so as well? If the President decides to soften his approach to border detainments then that would certainly be a quick fix, but legislation is a permanent fix in this regard. So why not come out with a full-throated show of support?

Because the left wants this. Never let a crisis go to waste, after all. It would be such a waste of a good political battering ram to actually fix the damn thing. Not to mention, the credit might go to the awful Republicans. That cannot happen. As long as the elected leftists can grandstand without actually doing anything, that is the sweet spot for them and their allies.

This is typical of the bad faith shown by Democrats on the immigration issue in recent years.  They are too happy to leave the situation the way it is and get the misleading media coverage on the border.
