Britain learns alternative energy can't handle severe weather as storm produces gas shortages

Daily Mail:
Gas warning they ignored: Ministers were told closure of Britain's largest North Sea storage would rob the UK of 70 per cent of its reserve

  • Industry leaders warned the closure of Rough would make the UK vulnerable

  • And price hikes and shortages were reported by the National Grid yesterday

  • The Rough site was responsible for 70 percent of the UK’s entire gas storage
  • The New England area of the US ran into the same problem this winter.  Alternative energy sources cannot be scaled up or down to meet demand in severe weather.  Until that problem is fixed it is a mistake to rely on it as anything but a supplemental power source.
