Texas adds electric transmission lines to Freeport to service largest ethylene plant in the world

Fuel Fix:
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the overseer of the state's electric grid, has approved expansion of a transmission line in Freeport, an industrial area with booming power demands and large chemical plants.

By 2019, Freeport's power demand is expected to be 92 percent higher than it was in 2016, according to ERCOT. The $246.7 million project will include a new 48 mile transmission line and upgrades to shorter line in the area, according to ERCOT.

Michigan and Delware-based DowDuPont announced earlier this year that it would spend $4 billion expanding its industrial campus in Freeport. The expansion will give Freeport the largest ethylene plant in the world. Houston-based Freeport LNG is also building an LNG export terminal in the area.

The plant will take advantage of the natural gas production available in Texas and service both the domestic and export market for ethylene which is used in plastic manufacturing.

29 % of companies say they are unlikely to keep insurance after Obamacare

Conn Carroll: A new survey of 368 midsize to large companies found that 29% of them are considering terminating their active employee health care plans when Obamacare is full implemented in 2014. Only 71% of employers surveyed said they did not expect to drop their health coverage, while 20% said they did not know and 9% said they were planning to exit. The latest survey, conducted by Towers Watson, echoes an ealier survey by McKinsey & Co. finding that 30% of private-sector employers were planning to drop their employee health insurance coverage by 2014.
