Democrats won Alabama Senate race through voter suppression and not on the issues

NY Times:

Alabama Win Offers Vivid Lesson for Democrats

Doug Jones’s victory on Tuesday was a measure of the big benefits Democrats enjoy when they put more resources into reaching black and other minority voters.
Doug Jones won despite his stand on abortion and immigration enforcement.  He won because Democrats and the media successfully demonized his Republican opponent as an "alleged pedophile" and other slurs about his alleged dating of teen girls 40 years ago.   It had the effect of suppressing the conservative white turnout.  It is certainly not a model for future success.  I suspect that Republicans will be wiser in the selection of candidates in the future.

Democrats are still wrong on abortion and border enforcement.  They have been campaigning in recent months on their hate for Trump and his agenda.  A message of hate should not be a winning issue for them.  While Trump can be abrasive, he has done some things very well that the media will not be able to hide forever.  In fact, the British media has already noticed the trend, even as most of the mainstream media in this country ignores it.

The economy is growing and jobs are being created at a rate that they would be praising if Obama was doing it.  The main reason Obama failed at it was his propensity for over-regulation.  Trump has also allowed the military to destroy ISIS and its caliphate.  Again, Obama's policy was a failure because of his control-freak tendencies to over-regulate a situation.

Obama was an amateur who thought he was the smartest man in the room, and the media agreed with him because he was glib and spoke in a manner they approved of.

Trump has also had success in increasing US trade which will also create more jobs.  Obama was a failure at it because of his globalist vision and his hostility to fossil fuels.  He was constantly wrong about energy production pushing inefficient alternative energy while proclaiming "We can't drill our way to lower prices."  The policies of the anti-energy left will also be a burden future Democrats will have to deal with.
