Trump disputes Democrat congresswoman's description of conversation with Green Beret's widow

Washington Post:
‘Totally fabricated’: Trump disputes lawmaker’s depiction of his exchange with soldier’s widow

Rep. Frederica S. Wilson (D-Fla.) told reporters she overheard the president tell the wife of fallen Sgt. La David T. Johnson that “he must have known what he signed up for.”
I suspect that Frederica Wilson was hostile to Trump before any conversation took place and that may have colored her description of the conversation.  But, for the sake of argument, if Trump did say it, it was an entirely true statement.

I was a Marine officer who was wounded in combat and I knew from the moment I volunteered that I would be going in harm's way and there would be people trying to kill me.  My whole family knew it.

That is what makes the service our military people provide so special and why we honor them with respect for the flag they fought for.  It is also what makes their families special.  The suggestion that it is insensitive to state the obvious comes from people who probably have never been in that situation.  Has the reporter served in combat or the reporter's editor?

What Trump is alleged to have said is really a reflection on the bravery of men like this Green Beret.  It is also why many find the disrespect by some NFL players protesting the flag and the anthem disgusting to many Americans who recognize the sacrifices some make for this country.
