Why I would not want to depend on an electric car to evacuate from a hurricane threatened area

Washington Post:
Why it’s a big deal that Tesla gave some Florida drivers more battery life
The increased mileage was equal to what a driver might get from one or two gallons of gas.

When you consider the limited range of most electric cars and the length of time needed to charge them who would trust their life and that of their family to making a get away with them.

If Florida depended on solar panels and windmills for power, both would have been destroyed by a powerful hurricane.  Alternative energy and electric cars are a risky proposition for a state like Florida.
