Clinton says the media helped Trump, they did in the primary, but not in the general election
Washington Post:
When Trump had the nomination in hand the media did their typical pivot to trying to destroy the GOP nominee. It is exactly what they did with McCain when he ran. They have followed the same routine for every election in recent memory.
As for the coverage of Clinton's email fiasco, it deserved every bit of the coverage it got and more. Her comment demonstrates how tone deaf she was to the seriousness of her mishandling of classified material. She put national security and US lives needlessly at risk in order to thwart Congressional oversight. It was a disqualifying move on her part and she deserved to lose because of it.
It should be noted that one reason Trump may also have gotten more air time is that Clinton ran a very lackadaisical campaign taking days off regularly and just not showing the stamina normally seen from a candidate for President.
Assessing a Clinton argument that the media helped to elect TrumpDuring the primary season, the media did give Trump more air time. I suspect that was because he said things that got their attention and also because they thought he would be the weaker candidate against Hillary Clinton. His Republican opponents certainly thought Trump would have a harder time defeating Clinton.
Hillary Clinton writes that the media provided Donald Trump free airtime and gave her emails "three times more coverage than all the issues affecting people's lives." The first point is fair. The next point is murkier.
