Spared Worst, Puerto Ricans Sail to Virgin Islanders’ Aid

Using pleasure boats, civilians have improvised a boatlift to carry donated supplies to the devastated islands and bring back evacuees.
The need is desperate:

Desperation in Caribbean: ‘All the Food Is Gone’

Food and water were in short supply in the Caribbean, and witnesses spoke of a disintegration of law and order.
Most of the islands import much of their food and all of their construction materials which means it will take some time to repair housing.  Boats that might have been used for fishing were probably also lost in the storm.

Many of these islands still have ties to European countries far from their shores.  Some have ties to the US.  The Trump administration has been using military planes to evacuate American citizens from some of the stricken islands.   Former San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan is organizing relief efforts for the US Virgin Islands where he is originally from.

The French President is also flying to the island of St. Martin to survey the damage.  In the past, the French have been much more aggressive than the Dutch in rebuilding after storms.

British citizens have been left wondering when they would be rescued from teh islands that are running out of food and law and order is breaking down.
