Laser weapon delivered to army that can take down small drones as well as other targets

Washington Post:
Lockheed Martin ready to hand over laser weapon to Army for testing

“We’re really at the dawn of an era,” one Lockheed scientist said. Proponents argue lasers, shown in a rendering, are cheaper than traditional munitions systems and could be useful in taking down devices such as off-the-shelf drones.

It is a much more cost-effective way of dealing with the cheap drones than firing million dollar missiles at them.  It will be interesting to see if it can also take oh heavier arms such as tanks.
