How Trump screwed up the Republican party?

Washington Post:
Once in control of GOP, conservatives agonize over election and beyond

The annual RedState Gathering that usually revs up Republicans has become a therapy session for them as they wonder if their party can be fixed.
There are now two types of conservatives in the GOP--Those who oppose Trump without reservation and those who try their best to ignore his  alienation of conservatives in hopes that there is a chance he might appoint someone better than Hillary Clinton would appoint to the Supreme Court.  The latter becomes and ever more tenuous position as he keeps saying things that are hard for a conservative to explain, much less swallow.

The media must be so proud of how it played the Republicans during this year's primary season.  They gave him billions of dollars worth of air time and publicity and waited until his nomination to start their tear down operation.
