Government forces arrest thousands as Turkey coup attempt appears to fail

NY Times:

265 Killed and Many More Wounded as Factions Clash

Nearly 3,000 people have been arrested by forces loyal to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a fight for control of the country.

Mr. Erdogan, an Islamist who has dominated politics for more than a decade, has alienated many Turks with his increasingly autocratic behavior.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim called the insurrection “a stain in the history of democracy.”
It is really too bad if Erdogan prevails.  He has been a terrible leader and a terrible ally of NATO.  Turkey and the world would be a better place if his Islamist government no longer was in power.  He has embraced several radical Islamists including giving sanctuary tot he leaders of the Hamas death cult.

Erdogan has been trying to erode constitutional government for some time and it should not be surprising that some would want to see him gone.
