Syrian civil wars goes from a fight for reform to a fight to control the rubble
Washington Post:
Who will pay for rebuilding what remains of Syria? It is unlikely that Syria's Arab neighbors will and the Russians have their own money problems. Why should the US contribute to rebuilding Assad's folly? Iran has its own economy it needs to rebuild, although it could throw some of the largess Obama has given them for the terrible nuke deal at Syria.
Five years on, calls for democracy have been eclipsed by war, persecution and death. Perhaps the push for reform never stood a chance.
