Offshore drilling paranoia on the East Coast

What I find appalling is that people have been scared into avoiding the exploitation of resources that could enrich their state and the lives of workers on those rigs.
This is anxiety stirred up by the anti energy left. The fear is largely baseless. You can see offshore rigs from Galveston Texas and elsewhere along the shoreline and it has not stopped people from visiting the beach or building homes near the beach. Back when I was racing sailboats we used the oil rigs as marks to be rounded on a race course. Many coastal residents, fearing a repeat of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, see potential disaster, while those inland speak of economic opportunity.
