Party leaders had hoped some of the most provocative speech would have subsided by now, but the battle lines on the issue have only deepened.
The establishment has not been able to articulate a winning argument for their policy of amnesty.  Ironically, the closest candidate to amnesty at this point is Donald Trump whose policy requires a massive round up of illegals for what critics call a "touchback amnesty" where he is going to ship them to Mexico and then let them back in after some informal vetting.

The Cruz program seems a more logical one, where he seals the border and unleashes ICE agents to deport those found to be here illegally and require monitoring of visa overstays.
