Navy ready to add rail guns to new destroyers

Daily Mail:

Navy's 'Star Wars' weapon could be used on a new stealth warship: Gun that penetrates concrete 100 MILES away to be ready in 2018

Development of a futuristic weapon is going well enough that a Navy admiral wants to skip an at-sea prototype in favor of installing an operational unit aboard one of its new Zumwalt-class destroyers.
The weapons are very powerful and much more cost effective than expensive missiles.  They would give the US a significant advantage over adversaries and also bring effective fire in support of Marine and SEAL shore operations.
