Obama's mean spirited negative campaign

NY Times:

Staying Positive May Be Difficult for Obama This Time

The White House is working to communicate a positive case for President Obama, one built around the themes of fairness and security.
His "fairness" theme is really a negative attack on those who think his approach is not an intelligent way to deal with the coming debt crisis.  He is wasting political capital on the so call Buffett rule that will generate little to deal with his spending problem.  It makes him look less than serious in dealing with a debt problem while he ignores the real drivers of the debt and attacks those who propose solutions to the problem such as Paul Ryan. His demonizing of those with different ideas is not Presidential.  Being more focused on Romney's wealth than solutions to the real problems makes Obama look small.
