Terrorist relocated from Gitmo to Illinois
Obama seems bent on doing things to make him popular with those who can't vote and unpopular with those who can. I think this is another move that will give people a reason to vote against Democrats. Republicans are still a ways from having people vote for them, but they are doing well among those who want to vote against Democrats.In an important step on the thorny path to closing the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the White House will announce Tuesday that the government will acquire an underutilized state prison in rural Illinois to be the new home for a limited number of suspected terrorists held at the U.S. naval base.
The government will acquire the Thomson Correctional Center in Thomson, Ill., a 1,600-cell prison in a sleepy town near the Mississippi River to house a limited number of Guantanamo detainees.
A host of Republican lawmakers were quick to express outrage over the decision to transfer suspected terrorists to the Illinois prison, saying the move will give terrorists constitutional rights and could pose a threat to national security.
"The American people and a bipartisan majority of the Congress have already rejected bringing terrorists to U.S. soil for long-term detention, and current law prohibits it," Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said in a statement Tuesday. "The administration has failed to explain how transferring terrorists to Gitmo North will make Americans safer than keeping these terrorists off of our shores in the secure facility in Cuba."
"This decision changes nothing but geography," Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, said in a statement. "The Obama administration is naive if they really think that simply changing the location of Gitmo will improve our relations with terrorists. Bringing Gitmo detainees to the U.S. gives terrorists access to additional constitutional rights. These new rights may help terrorists avoid conviction and even file civil suits against American officials."

Update: To name one, there is Khalid Sheik Mohamed the mastermind of 9-11 and four of his co-conspirators. As for those who have been convicted and sent to the supermax, it clearly did little to deter the 9-11 attacks.

Give us a break. The most notorious Terrorist have been tried and housed on American soil for years and non of you conservatives never seemed to get all weak kneed and scare of terrorist on American soil..... until now.
