Pakistan frees hostage at headquarters of army

NY Times:

In a brazen attack on the heart of the Pakistani military, gunmen dressed in military fatigues stormed the headquarters of the nation’s army operations on Saturday, killing six people and taking as many as 25 hostages, an army spokesman said.

Early Sunday morning, Pakistani commandos stormed a security office where some of the gunmen were holding the hostages, the spokesman, Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas, told Reuters. The commandos freed 22 hostages in the operation, but three hostages were killed, General Abbas said. The military was searching for other gunmen, he said.

The attack, in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, was the third by Taliban militants in Pakistan in a week, and it is a singular embarrassment for the Pakistani Army, exposing its vulnerability to the insurgency that is closely associated with Al Qaeda. It came as the military was planning a offensive against the Taliban in South Waziristan, and it was seen as a statement by the militants that they could attack the army first.

...
It is not much of a statement. They killed a few people and the attacking survivors were captured and the hostages were freed. If you turn that around and the army had done the same thing it would have been perceived as a disastrous attack and a failure.

In fact, there is nothing easier in warfare than conducting a failed attack. This was clearly a media event staged by the Taliban and unfortunately too many in the media rose to the bait.

That being said, Pakistan needs to do a better job of force protection.

  1. This is so saddening to see, war has been going on for too long as well as injustice. We see it everywhere, pride, nationalism, vengeance. This is all a sign of the last days notice what the Bible has to say about that: 2 Timothy 3:1-5 : "But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away."
This problems are everywhere and we don't have the power to fix them, only God can. He will bring the solution to them as well as giving us a beautiful hope for the future. In Revelation 21:3-5 : "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” 5 And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also, he says: “Write, because these words are faithful and true."
He promises to erase pain, death and suffering for each and everyone, he also so lovingly said he will wipe out every tear from your eyes. Imagine that.... After that has been accomplished, he also will go back to his original purpose of having an earthly paradise. Notice the last scripture found in Psalms 37: 9-11 "For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth. 10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. 11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."
We all hope and actively pray for God's Kingdom to come and solve this problems, in the mean time we strive to learn what his word has to say, to make the necessary changes within ourselves to please him and become a better person, as we wait for his taking action.
